too close for comfort...

On 8/21/20 our old house burned to the ground, we had just visited the property yesterday which had me extra emotional. Today this fire started from downed power lines just a few miles away, at first the wind had it blowing directly our way, never a comfortable feeling, but what set my nerves on fire was the emergency phone notifcation for our zone to evacuate now with a fast moving wildfire, suddenly it was all to real for me...

a huge thank you to all those in harms way there to help others, todays fire is holding its containment, i hope no one lost their home...

bookclub~

Over a decade ago I started a online group called the novel bakers, based on a blog I had called food for thought, which was the combination of my love for reading, photos, food and fun. While living at the beach a friend started a book club and I suggested my idea to the group to incorporate the food in the books into our tangible potluck meal. After a 5 year hiatus from the beach book club I have been reintroduced to the magic of food, friends and books again.

The book this month was miss benson's beetle, about a woman in search of an illusive golden beetle in the tropics, you cannot imagine my joy to walk into my friends beautiful home and seeing the golden beetle proudly sculpted and pinned in a marzipan on a chocolate cheesecake! Every dish was straight from the book with a distinct tropical flair, featuring spam, sweet potatoes and pulled pork. It was such a magical evening to step back into time again~
